Searching for a school for troubled boys in Chicago, Illinois? Perhaps you will look at Future Men, an affordable Christian boarding school in Missouri known for its devotion to at-risk adolescent boys who have gotten off track academically, emotionally, legally or relationally.
Future Men in Missouri is an evangelical non-denominational Christian boarding school and leadership academy. It is an early intervention school whose mission is to lead struggling teenagers to realize their specific purpose, or destiny, in Christ. Teens arrive at Future Men from across the country, including from Chicago, Illinois, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Spiritual life is the cornerstone characteristic of Future Men. We are committed to introducing every student to Jesus Christ to help them find their gifting and destiny in Christ. Many teenagers who enroll have rebelled against their spiritual heritage or have never professed belief in Christ, and FM offers an open environment for them to take ownership of their faith, perhaps for the first time. Bible study, worship, and prayer permeate everything we do at Future Men.
Future Men exclusively enrolls troubled or troubled boys. Besides helping capable students learn to apply themselves academically, we provide specific leadership training to unlock the potential in each child. We teach teens to serve and love other people. Mission trips and community service opportunities provide real life experience and application of the leadership principles taught at FM.
Future Men is a fully accredited high school that operates under a program of independent study with tutelage. Students complete courses at their own pace, with weekly objectives set by tutors based on the student’s chosen course work. Courses are available for all levels, up to Honors and AP classes. FM also encourages students to work toward post-secondary goals by offering assistance with SAT and ACT testing and applying for colleges.
FM acknowledges that teens and their families today face huge challenges from the culture. Teens are assaulted by a barrage of negative peer pressure. The FM model for change is called Positive Peer Culture (PPC), which asserts that young people can develop self-worth, significance, dignity, and responsibility only as they devote themselves to the positive values of helping and caring for others.
Outdoor activities at FM are designed to play a role in leadership development and character growth as part of a holistic approach to development. Every student is encouraged to try adventure activities because of the important values that can be gained.
