Safety & accountability

Safety and oversight at Future Men

Trusting someone with your son is a big decision. Here is how Future Men is overseen, who is with your son every day, how discipline works and how to report a concern.

Updated

The short answer

Is Future Men safe?

Future Men is registered with the Missouri Department of Social Services under the state’s residential care facility law. Every adult completes state-required background checks, and staff live on campus. Directors approve and review discipline, and there is no physical punishment. Anyone can report a concern directly to the Missouri Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-392-3738.

01

State registration and oversight

Registered with the Missouri Department of Social Services as a license-exempt, faith-based residential care facility under the Residential Care Facility Notification Act (HB 557).

Separately, our academic program is accredited by Cognia. How academics work.

02

Background checks

Every adult at Future Men completes the background checks Missouri requires for people who work with children in residential care.

03

Staff who live on campus

The men who mentor your son live on campus. They eat with the students, work beside them and go to church with them every Sunday. Bible studies, vulnerable one-on-one conversations and consistent accountability are the minimum standards.

Daily life

Known by name,
by the men beside him.

Future Men is intentionally small, with 18 to 20 students. Your son is known by name, and the expectations are clear. Every week includes Christian discipleship and accredited academics with an individual plan, and every Tuesday and Thursday he works at a local business learning a real trade.

04

How discipline works

We want you to know exactly what discipline looks like here before you enroll, not after. Ask us about any of it.

Levels and consequences

  • Students move through levels and earn privileges.
  • Consequences can include extra work assignments.
  • On some levels, meals are simpler. Regular meals can be earned back through work hours.
  • A consequence can include time apart from the group in a separate structure that is within staff view. It is never overnight.
  • Directors approve and review discipline.

What is always true

  • There is no physical punishment of any kind.
  • Students are never denied water, bathroom access or indoor sleeping.
  • A student can always leave a consequence for water, the bathroom or help, without added punishment.
  • Medical diets are accommodated.
05

Family contact

After a three-week settling-in period, every student has a scheduled weekly family call, monitored by staff. Parents have a scheduled call with staff every other week, starting right away. Parents can reach out whenever they need to and are encouraged to visit.

How families stay connected.

06

Health and medical needs

The application asks about your son’s medications and medical history so staff understand his needs, and medical diets are accommodated. Future Men is Christian mentoring and discipleship. We do not provide licensed therapy or psychiatric care. Not every mental-health need can be safely served here, so our admissions team reviews every situation individually.

07 Reporting a concern

08
